Picture it:  Ottawa.  August, 2010.  The Girl wakes up too early (like 5 am too early!) and decides to finally start the blog that friends have been harassing encouraging her to start.  Hardest part:  coming up with the name.  The Girl glances at the clock in the bottom right of her computer.  5:15 am.  Nothing.  Too early for a dirty martini.  But what if it wasn’t?  What if we could have martinis for breakfast every day?  Or at least once a week?  Hmmm…. martinis for breakfast – that sounds like the perfect name for a blog!  The Girl brews a pot of tea and gets to work.  martinis for breakfast is born.

That’s how it all happened folks.  Although I have no formal bartending or mixology experience, I do like to mix (and blog about) uncomplicated but interesting drinks with ingredients you can get at your local LCBO.  While I admire and respect craft bartending, I don’t think anyone should have to wait too long to get a drink!

In the time since I have been blogging, I have had lots of great feedback about my blog – including how most readers don’t see it as primarily a cocktail blog.  That although I do post recipes, my readers tell me that they would find it boring if this blog was just an index of recipes.  This is the ‘random musings’ part of my blog.  You just never know what you’re going to get.

As this is a ‘bio’ page, I feel compelled to include the obligatory ‘bio blurb’ which includes such (ho-hum) details as how I have been formally trained and work as an epidemiologist in public health.  I live in Ottawa with my  husband (‘The Jock’), two kids and a dog.  I also have a ton of crazy, devoted and beautiful friends who tolerate all of my cocktail creations (the good and the not-so good).

In addition to the boring bio-blurb, you should probably know that I listen to the CBC constantly.  I have at least 18 tubes of lip gloss at any one time.  I am clumsy and hate crafts.  Despite being a scientist, I read Free Will Astrology every week.  I read everything from In Style to The New Yorker (and everything else in between), and aspire to have my own phone-in talk show one day.

So there you have it:  the boring bio.  Just so you know, I do try to make my posts more interesting that this…so please try and join me each week for the random musings!
